The Greater Columbia Chapter focuses on supporting the University and students through initiatives (such as Adopt-a-Center) and contributions to the SCSU National Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, the SCSU Foundation, and by awarding two Greater Columbia Chapter Scholarships in the amount of $1000. In 2008, the Chapter hosted an inaugural, highly successful Garnet & Blue Gala to support all of its endeavors, especially scholarships. The highly successful Gala returned on Valentine's Day in 2009 -a Bulldog love affair!
The Chapter has sponsored several High School Night college career and recruitment events at local Columbia high schools with representation from the University. Our highly successful bus trips to Youth Day during Football seasons have exposed youth from the Greater Columbia area to the college environment and SCSU. Some 200 young people participated in 2008.
Since 2003, the Chapter has also leveraged its website at www.capitalcitybulldogs.com to keep alumni informed of institutional advancements, activities, sports, and alumni affairs. The site promotes campus departments and academic programs, e.g. Admissions, Scholarships and Recruitment, Marching Band, Henderson-Davis Players, Student Government Association, WSSB Radio Station, Summer Camps, and so forth. Additional Web links direct alumni and supporters to websites of particular interests. And, the online payment capability on the website, PayPal, has allowed us to connect to our alumni and supporters in new and exciting ways.
Volunteerism is a strong characteristic of our members. Each is very active in the community as well as in the Chapter. And, all are enthusiastic about the well-being of young people, students. Join us! We are an active Chapter and in just a few weeks we will host the 20th Annual National Alumni Convention at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Columbia, July 30 - August 2, 2009. We are expecting Bulldogs from across the country and the University to attend the Convention. There are lots of details on this website: Just click the "Home" button above. Please email your requests for more information to info@capitalcitybulldogs.com.
Come -there is a place for you!
Bulldog love!
