Chapter Mission
The objectives and purposes of this Chapter shall be to develop
and maintain the spirit of the University; disseminate knowledge;
cement the bonds of fellowship and loyalty to the University; promote
education and scholarship; develop an appreciation of our culture; form
and establish a closer inter-relationship between the University, its
graduates, faculty, student body, and the communities served by the University.
National Alumni Association Constitution and By-Laws
Greater Columbia Chapter Constitution and By-Laws - This document has been filed with the National Association for review.
Adopt-A-Center Committee
"During the SCSUNAA 19th National Convention the Future Alumni Committee proposed an adoption program of all living and learning centers (formerly called dormitories)" at SC State University. The Committee proposed: "This is a way to connect with students as they arrive on campus until they graduate." The Committee then challenged the Alumni Chapters to adopt "the nine centers and participating in activities with them. Examples are but not limited to: move in days, homecoming activities, purchasing subscriptions to magazines, donating games and musical equipment, and participating in informative sessions. The committee's goal is to have all nine living and learning centers adopted by January 2009. More than one chapter can adopt a center." This committee works very closely with the Public Relations Committee on projects to meet the on-campus student needs of the University.
Alumni Center Committee
This Committee is responsible for researching the feasibility of
securing an alumni center for this Chapter; shall monitor the operation
of the center; supervise the maintenance of the Alumni Center; and shall
make periodic reports to the Executive Board to include recommendations
for improvements to the Alumni Center.
Constitution and By-Laws Committee
It shall be the responsibility of the Constitution and By-laws Committee to keep abreast of any amendments or other changes to the Constitution and By-laws of the National Association and ensure that Constitution and By-Laws of the local Chapter are not inconsistent with the Constitution and By-laws of the National Association.
The Garnet & Blue Gala (TM) Committee
The Garnet & Blue Gala (TM) Committee shall plan the annual gala as a black-tie event with a theme during the weekend of or just prior to Valentine's Day in the month of February to promote South Carolina State University and to raise funds to benefit the Chapter's initiatives and scholarships, all of which benefit, support, and enforce the mission of South Carolina State University. The budget for this committee includes $3000.00 earmarked in the Chapter's treasury as start-up planning funds. The Garnet & Blue Gala ™ is required to raise net income of no less than the sum of total Chapter Sholarships offered plus $3000.00 to replenish the Chapter's treasury. The Committee is required to inform the membership of the planning and the final budget and outcomes for the Gala. All Chapter members and Committees support this Committee's efforts.
Fund-raising Committee
The Fund-raising Committee shall plan events during the fiscal year to raise sufficient capital to assist in carrying out the business of the Chapter. At least two (2) fund- raising events shall be undertaken during each fiscal year.This committee is currently served by several project teams to meet the needs of the University and to support student-based initiatives of the Chapter, such as Youth Day.
Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee shall be responsible for the expression of support to members and friends of the Chapter and National Association on the occasion of life altering circumstances, including but not limited to the following; marriage, illness, death, other rites of passage, etc. The Chaplain shall be an active member of this committee. When deemed appropriate, the Hospitality Committee shall coordinate its activities with the Social Committee. This committee works very closely with all Chapter committees, especially Membership; STATE Club and National Alumni Association hospitality to further the Bulldog Pride among alumni to meet the support needs of the University.
Membership Committee
It shall be the duty of this Committee to increase the membership of the Chapter by developing ways and means to attract new individuals to the Chapter while maintaining current membership. This committee sponsors the annual Summer Fling And Membership Kick-Off and works very closely with all Chapter committees and at all Chapter functions.
Nominating Committee
One month prior to the annual meeting of each odd year, the Nominating Committee shall submit an official slate or roster of names for the various Chapter offices, as prescribed in the By-laws.
Public Relations Team
The Public Relations Committee shall be responsible for delivering, via various methods, information to the general public regarding the Chapter and the university. This committee shall promote the spirit of the University and its alumni. It will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the Chapter website.This committee is currently served by several project teams to meet the needs of the Chapter.
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee shall be responsible for administering the Chapter's academic and need-based scholarships, and interest in the University and Nationbal Alumni Association scholarships. This committee works very closely with any SCSU Educational Foundation, Chapter and National Alumni Association financial initiatives involving students and prospective students to meet the student scholarship needs of the University.
Social Committee
The Social Committee shall be responsible for planning activities of a purely social nature for the Chapter members and their families. The activities will include but are not limited to receptions after meetings, chapter hosted receptions (hospitality rooms) for visitors during university related events held in the Greater Columbia area, receptions held in conjunction with other entities of the National Alumni Association or the University, etc. When deemed appropriate, the Social Committee shall coordinate its activities with the Hospitality Committee. This committee is currently served by several project teams to meet the needs of the Chapter.
Student Recruitment Committee
The Student Recruitment Committee shall be responsible for planning events/activities to promote student interest in the University. This committee works very closely with any SCSU Admissions, Chapter and National Alumni Association initiative involving students and prospective students to meet the student recruitment needs of the University.
