What a WONDERFUL weekend of excitement, fun, camaraderie, recommitment, planning, brainstorming, clarity, learning, giving, shopping, eating, dancing, discovery, listening, sharing, laughter, embracing, and, yes, even tears! South Carolina State University is WELL on it's way to becoming an even Greater University of Higher Learning! Market-aligned academic programs, programs for pre-medicine and advanced studies, leading-edge programs, new Honors College, multiple new buildings under construction, picked to repeat as MEAC Champions in multiple sports, engaged students and SGA, exemplary faculty research and student learning at home and abroad, corporate engagement, focused on reaccreditation and addressing internal challenges, fundraising and alumni giving on the rise, and so much more!
The 2010 National Convention was hosted by the Greater Augusta Chapter under the leadership of Mr. James Quarrles, President '78; Dr. Rosa Ismal '71, Local Convention Chair; and Ms. Carolyn RIchburg, 2nd VP, SCSU National Alumni Association. Congratulations, again, to this leadership and the ENTIRE Greater Augusta Chapter for a very successful and highly enjoyable weekend!
Thank you, Pastor Sam Goodwin (GCC Member, Steadfast Christian Center) for delivering such a powerful message and learning opportunity on Sunday, August 1, 2010 - the Convention's Ecumenical Breakfast. Alumni, we are called to be careful about what we say, according to the Word: "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:21 (New International Version).
Thank you to all Greater Columbia Chapter members who attended the Convention, for your commitment and answering the call to action, for participating in the programming. The below members attended the general sessions, participated in open forums with University administrators and the Board of Trustees; participated in workshops and roundtables; met new friends and reconnected with classmates; and participated and voted in the National Alumni Council meetings.
