for 2008-2009 Academic Year

Application for admission to South Carolina State University must be made through the Office of Admissions at South Carolina State University prior to consideration for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria for the GCCSCSUNAA Scholarship

  1. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior during the year of initial application.
  3. Applicant must meet the criteria for admission to South Carolina State University.
  4. All applicants are considered on a merit basis.
  5. GCCSCSUNAA scholarship recipient must be a full time student at South Carolina State University. A full time student is defined as a student carrying a minimum of 12 semester credit hours.
  6. Recipient must provide proof of enrollment at South Carolina State University prior to any funds being released.
  7. All applications must be postmarked no later than May 18, 2008.

Award Summary Statement

The GCCSCSUNAA Scholarship Committee will base the award (s) on academic achievement, leadership ability, community service, recommendations, and financial needs. The recipient must be a student that resides within the Greater Columbia Chapter geographic region. Presently that region constitutes the counties of Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, and Kershaw, South Carolina. Applicants outside of these counties are ineligible for the Scholarship.

Award Amount

The GCCSCSUNAA will award a one-time scholarship in the amount of $750. The scholarship is non-renewable.

Miss Danielle R. Cooper is GCCSCSU Scholarship Recipient for 2006-2007!
Miss Danielle R. Cooper GCCSCSUNAA Scholarship Recipient 2006!

Miss Danielle R. Cooper is a 2006 Richland Northeast High School (RNHS) graduate, ranking 96 of 342 graduating seniors.

While in high school, Miss Cooper participated in extra curricular activities such as basketball and volleyball. She was also a member of the RNHS orchestra as a cello player and a member of the RNHS athletic trainer team.

Some of her hobbies are reading and singing with the Young Adult Choir at her church.

This past spring she received an award from the Columbia Urban League as one of South Carolina's young, gifted, and talented. She was also accepted, from many candidates, into the 2006 Health Care Summer Fellowship Program at Palmetto Health. For three weeks of the summer, she worked with doctors, nurses, and immediate staff members at Palmetto Health Richland and Palmetto Health Baptist, in many capacities.

Miss Cooper is currently a freshman at South Carolina State University, majoring in Nursing.

Mr. Michael Priester is 2005-2006 winner of Greater Columbia Chapter Scholarship
Mr. Michael Priester

Mr. Michael Priester, the 2005-2006 scholarship recipient, is the son of Mr. Walter and Mrs. Danni Priester. He is a recent graduate of Columbia High School and received the Principal's Award of Excellence.

Priester is presented award at June meeting by Scholarship Committee Chair Barbara Roach as his parents look on proudly.

While attending Columbia High school, Priester was a member of the Columbia High Marching Band and Orchestra and he participated in Varsity Soccer, Varsity Track and Field, and Varsity Tennis. He remains actively involved in community efforts such as, the Junior Usher Board, the Teens-N-Praise Choir, and the Homeless Outreach Program.

Priester is looking forward to playing drums with the SCSU Marching 101 in the fall and plans to major in Computer Science.

FINANCIAL AID - assistance in the form of grants (financial awards that are not repaid), loans (financial awards which must be repaid), work, tuition waivers, scholarships, and any other type provided for payment of tuition, books, and other expenses related to attending college. Financial aid may be received from many sources: Federal, State, and local governments; families, churches, and decents of members of special societies; clubs, fraternities, sororitites, and unions; and private individuals and businesses.

SCHOLARSHIPS - financial gifts or aids awarded by an individual, group, or organization specifically designed for students who exhibit strong academic potentials, special needs, special talents, or the student is in a special category of students. A student and his/her parents must apply for scholarships. Hence, scholarships are awarded for many different reasons as a part of a competitive process. For instance, a family may award a scholarship as a memorial to a child; or a student may receive a scholarship because of his interests in in public school teaching or her interests in science. Moreover, because all students can apply for multiple schlarships, scholarships are the most common form of financial aid. For these reasons, it is very important to read the guidelines and adhere to all due dates for a particular scholarship.

FINANCIAL AID OFFICE AND OFFICER - the college or university administrator and office that assists students with financial aid questions and awards. Since financial aid cover such a broad area with many options and typically have early application dates, it is recommended that students contact the Financial Aid Office of the college or university in which they are interested in attening

HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR - the high school administrator responsible for assisting a student with career guidance involving decisions for work-life following high school, taking standardized tests, financial aid, etc. This person should be contacted as quickly as possible for assistance. The 9th grade is not too early!

Bank of America Internship Program

The primary objective of the Bank of America Intern Program is to attract and hire talented students who will convert into full-time associates upon graduation. A key component of this objective is our commitment to recruit and retain diverse talent. Intern Program Requirements

  1. Overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  2. Full-time undergraduate or graduate student attending an accredited college/university
  3. Non-graduating status (i.e. must be graduating after August 2005)
  4. Eligible to work 40 hours per week for the program length of 10-12 weeks
  5. Business or technical-related majors
  6. Must possess the right to work in the United States, as it is not the practice of Bank of America to sponsor individuals for work visas.
    *It is not company-standard to offer housing or relocation assistance for interns.

We begin posting internship opportunities in January. First round telephone interviews typically begin in January. We encourage students to go online (http://www.bankofamerica.com/careers/index.cfm?template=r_internships) during that time and post their resume by applying to those positions that they are interested in. By doing this, they will get their resume into our candidate tracking system for consideration. If their background matches the needs of the position, they will be contacted via email for an interview. Please note that we may receive new positions into February so check the site on a weekly basis.

In the "Job Search" box click on "Advanced Search". Then under "Key Word" type in "Intern", under "Category" click on "Administration". Input location preference.
