"...THE LARGEST NUMBER OF UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS IN HISTORY"
|
"In the midst of budget cuts, financial struggles and an economy that has had devastating effects on higher education institutions, South Carolina State University is moving quickly to enroll what appears could be one of the University's largest enrollments.
To date (March 11, 2011), SC State has received more than 6,000 applications from students who have expressed an interest in attending the University. Mr. Antonio Boyle, assistant vice president for Enrollment Management, has shared that the number of applications received thus far surpasses the 5329 applications received in 2010; the 5273 applications received in 2009; and the 4498 received when SC State hosted the first democratic presidential debate of the 2008 election cycle.
The type of students who have submitted the applications that we have received to date, are academically-talented, first generation to attend college and minority students. The challenge for us, however, is to assist these students in enrolling and finding the needed academic and need-based scholarship dollars to assist them financially, but we are hopeful that we will be successful in this regard."
Dr. Charles N. Smith, SCSU
Vice President, Student Affairs
| Dr. Charles Smith...is reengaging the nation with a topic that is all too familiar, especially within the African-American community. Smith's book, ...sheds light on the seriousness of absentee fathers and the emotional pain that is inflicted on their children.
